League Match v Westerings

Date : 8th November 2017

Location : Westerings Primary School

Result : Westerings 1 Hockley 9

Today Hockley travelled just down the road to Westerings Primary Academy to play in a league match.

Hockley started really well, and showing glimpses of what we have been working on in training, keeping shape, limited touches and moving the ball quickly. Through great passing splitting their midfield, one of our players was brought to the ground, and from the free kick the ball found itself in the top corner. We continued to dominate for long periods of the first half, only every now and then forgetting about shape I have been drilling into them. Goals continued to flow and we went in at half time 4v0 up.

Chatted about shape at half time reminding them that 1v0 to me would be better than a 5v4 win. 3 changes at half time did unbalance the side slightly, but still managed to push the ball into the right areas, and within a minute of the restart it was 5v0. The boys continued to apply pressure and soon it was 6v0 7v0 8v0. Then Westerings pulled one back with a fine finish 8v1. Boys gathered themselves and were soon 9v1, and that was how the game finished up.

Scorers : William 3, Haydon 2, Jacob 2, Charles 2.

A pleasing performance by the boys, and only looking threatened when shape slipped, or did too much on ball. They will get use to holding shape and realising the success that comes with it.
