Remembrance Day and Little Havens

25 November 2015 (by School Council)

School Council Discussions

The School Council had the opportunity to visit the memorial in Hockley for Remembrance day. Once there, we met Mr Taylor, our school's Chair of Governors, who told us some interesting facts and stories about Hockley during the war and even before too. At 11 o'clock, we all held a two minutes silence with other members of the Hockley community to show our respect and appreciation for the people who have lost and risked their lives to protect us during previous wars. As well as the two minutes silence; the Year 1 and 2 councillors laid a wreath full of poppies at the memorial, the Year 3 and 4 councillors read some poppy poems and the Year 5 and 6 councillors also read a prayer. Also the school council had the opportunity to visit Little Havens, as they are our chosen charity that we have chosen to support this year. Recently we raised about £250 for Little Havens and during our visit we were able to see how our money impacts the children who live there. We also had a tour of Little Havens and got to see all of the different rooms there and how each room helps the children to enjoy themselves and also relax. We would like to say thank you to all of the staff at Little Havens for showing us around. By Oliver and Lily
